    Hi! I have the same trouble with my ribbing, the first row looks stretched out. Sometimes it helps to knit through the back loop. It makes a very defined stitch. You might want to practice on something else first, though, in case you don’t like how it looks. It’s a very different look than knitting through the front loop.

    Um – I realise that this is a bit late in the day – but… I recently read an article by Isolda Teague and she says that she knits her knit stitches through the back of the loop and purls her purls continental style. I’ve tried this with the dreaded 2 x 2 rib and it does seem to work.
